The turn of the tide flips the script.

This can be turned upside down and it still reads the same (except for those years, of course). The text in the middle is a rotational ambigram. If you're not familiar with the term, Google and Wikipedia will help.

This is the first ambigram I've ever designed and I'm quite happy how it turned out. When I was sketching this I quickly noticed that these things are hard to create, but then again that was the reason I decided to try it, so I didn't complain.

It all began a couple of weeks ago when I was in a library. I had to kill some time so I flipped through some art book. There I saw some interesting designs by Scott Kim and took a closer look at them. I had never heard or seen the word ambigram before, but now I saw and thought, "Wow, I so gotta try this myself!" And now, here is the result.

I must make more ambigrams when I have time. (And ideas of course!)

~~~~~
1. This took 3.5 hours to draw.
2. Designing the ambigram took ca. two hours.
3. Both the turn of the tide and flip the script refer to change, and I hope that when the year changes, it changes for a better one for everyone who sees this piece either here or there at Porthania building.
